Work Parties
This weekend, we are running TWO work parties! Saturday and Sunday, February 4th and 5th, 10 am to 2 pm each day. The weather forecast is fabulous, and this will be a great chance to see what’s going on at the Garden now. We have been very lucky to have some help from two wonderful employees of the Ruby Lake Lagoon Society. They have been bringing in school groups and doing a great job of taming our invasive blackberries along the North pond and across the back fence line. Composting cribs, using some of the cut alder have been put together, and the blackberry vines will soon be composting into usable soil amendments. It’s amazing what Lee-Ann and Rosalind (the Ruby Lake staffers) and a bunch of school classes have done. A few of our members have been helping out, but now is the time to step it up a notch! It would be great if you can come out for a bit of time on Saturday or Sunday. If you want to achieve “Hero of the Garden” status, join us both Saturday and Sunday! These work parties are a terrific way to meet new people, get a bit of exercise, and truly help the Garden grow. Please bring (if you have them): hand pruners, loppers, and good garden gloves. The gate at the main parking lot (at the North end) will be open; if you arrive and nobody is around head down the path by the north pond and listen for the sound of laughter. We’ll wrap up each day’s work with a weenie roast over an open fire. Please stick around and enjoy a hot dog or two (veggie dogs will be available).
