Northwest Coast Plant Habitat Demonstration Garden

Demonstration Garden Sign

September 8, 2003 Installation

The Northwest Coast Plant Habitat Demonstration Garden was initiated by SCBGS member Bill Terry, who wanted to convert a blackberry patch near his waterfront Sechelt home into a low-maintenance garden that would be both attractive and instructive. The District of Sechelt has assisted the project with the donation of bark mulch and other materials. Donations of plants were made by Bill and other SCBGS members.

The demonstration garden is located on a spur of Shorncliffe Road between Teredo Road (Hwy 101) and Snickett Park on the Sechelt waterfront. Look for the sign!

Bill Terry with Shovel

Bill Terry displays his weapon of choice for eliminating the blackberries which formerly occupied the garden site.

Planting Crew

The planting crew included Verity Goodier, Harry Hill, Glenn Lewis, Paulean Machale, Beverley Merryfield, Bill Terry, Karin Tigges and Paddy Wales.

Planning the Planting

Verity Goodier, Sechelt Mayor Cameron Reid, and Bill Terry await the arrival of the planting crew. Bill had been receiving donations of potted plants for the site throughout the summer.

Happy Planters

Happy planters - Bill had already done the site preparation, so once the planting got started it didn't take long!
